MOUNT  FUJI

Japan’s Mt. Fuji is an active volcano about 100 kilometers southwest of Tokyo. Commonly called “Fuji-san,” it’s the country’s tallest peak, at 3,776 meters. A pilgrimage site for centuries, it’s considered one of Japan’s 3 sacred mountains, and summit hikes remain a popular activity. Its iconic profile is the subject of numerous works of art, notably Edo Period prints by Hokusai and Hiroshige.

MOUNT  EVEREST

Mount Everest, known in Nepali as Sagarmatha and in Tibetan as Chomolungma, is Earth's highest mountain above sea level, located in the Mahalangur Himal sub-range of the Himalayas. The international border between Nepal and China runs across its summit point.

\textbf{\large{\underline{Answer :-}}}

Mountains occupy a large proportion of the Earth surface.

The mountain is a naturally elevated large mass of land farming tips about the surrounding area.

There are four types of mountains -

\textbf{\underline{1. Fold Mountains}}

\textbf{\underline{2. Block Mountains}}

\textbf{\underline{3. Volcanic Mountains}}

\textbf{\underline{4. Residual Mountains}}

Types of Mountains :

\textbf{\underline{Fold mountains}}

fold mountains are formed when large scale Earth movements cause wrinkling or folding of the earth's crust along the line of weakness.

• The land is lifted in a wave like formation.

• The upper fold or anticline form the mountain and the downfall or syncline forms the valley.

• The Aravali , the Urals and Appalachians are a few examples of old fold mountains formed millions of years ago.

• The Himalayas in India and Rockies in North America are examples of new fold mountains.

\textbf{\underline{Block Mountains}}

• Sometimes forces of compression and tension may cause cracks or falts on the Earth's crust.

• When the land between two points is pushed upwards above the surrounding level they form Block Mountains or horsts.

• On the contrary if the land is pushed downwards it forms rift Valley or graben.

• The Vindhyas and the Satpuras in India are two block mountains.

\textbf{\underline{Volcanic Mountains}}

• Volcanic Mountains are formed when hot molten lava errupts from the vents of the Earth surface

• Lava along with dust , ashes and liquid mud etc. accumulates around the vent in the layers

• These layers cool down to form volcanic mountains.

Example :- Mt.Fujiyama

\textbf{\underline{Residual Mountains}}

• Continuous erosion of the old fold mountains or block mountains over the years form residual mountains

Example : Mt. Manodnock in USA
