the division of french society was also known as old regime system.frech society of estates was apart of the feudal system that dated back to the middle ages.french society in the 18th century was divided into three estates , and only the members of third estate paid taxes.
1.)first estate-it is comprised of the church and the clergy. the enjoyed many privileges by birth.
2.)second estate-in the second estate were the nobles(people from the royal family)and the other rich members .they were also exempted from paying taxes.
3.)third estate-it comprised of peasants, business men, farmers and other ordinary people.they were paying all direct taxes like ''taille''.
