The French society was divided into three estates before the French revolution.
The first and second estate consist of clergy and nobility respectively.The third estate consist of the 90% of the French's population.It consist of big merchants, traders, landless labours, peasents, etc.The first and second estates had several rights which the third estate doesn't have.The most important of them was exemption from paying tax.The third estate people were the only one who had to pay tax.Maximum percent of the land was also owned by the first and second estates.
