Social conditions in North India during AD 800-1200. The power was increasingly decentralised in order to satisfy regional interests. It gave way to feudalism. The feudal lords managed their area and had to fulfil the king's obligations.

In order to understand about the economic and social conditions of North India during the medieval period, one needs to understand about the rule of Ruler Harsha, which covered most of the dominant portions of Northern India.

Most of the people were exploited and there was a clear distinction of ruling classes over the oppressed sections. Half of the times they could not arrange enough money and had to starve. So the economic as well and the societal conditions were improper.

There was demarcation made on the basis of castes and caste systems existed. So there was a decline in trade and commerce. Federalization also existed in Northern India.
