The economic implications were:-
1. Foreign cloth was burned in huge bonfires. Foreign goods were boycotted and liquor shops were picketed.
2. In many places merchants and traders refused to trade in foreign goods.
3. The import of foreign cloth halved between 1921-22.
4.The overall expense on foreign cloth declined from 102 crore to 57 crore.
5. People started wearing traditional khadi clothes and as a result, the production of Indian textile and handloom mills went up.
