A. In 1789, when Louis XIV had convened an assembly of Estates General with regard to proposal of new taxes, representatives of the estates were formed part of that assembly.

b. Third Estate that represented the common people both rich and poor of France, it mainly comprised of peasants ,artisans, even businessmen, official, lawyers.

c. In 1789.assembly of Estates general mainly comprised of educated and prosperous section of the third estate who mainly represented the rest of the section of the society and voiced their concerns and grievances at the Assembly.

d. Since, these 600 representatives carried along with them 40,000 odd letters of the common people they viewed themselves and spoke for the whole nation.

e. Failure to get their demands fulfilled by the king, at the 1789, Convocation of Estates General, they staged a walk out .

f. The Third Estate formed National Assembly and viwed themselves as reprsenting nation, and were led by Mirabeau and Abbé Sieyès, and involved themselves in drafting a new constitution to limit the powers of the monarch.

g. The members of the assembly were directly elected , with two round system , so that the member elected reprsents absolute majority.

h. If no candidate receives required majority, candidate with less votes , except for the two who have high proportion of votes are eliminated and then second round occurs to elect the candidate.
