The employment in the three sectors of the economy can be explained as follows :-


Around 60% of the people of the nation are employed in primary sector, mainly agriculture producing only 25% of GDP.

The secondary sector share has increased in last 30 years to around 16%,

The tertiary sector has seen a remarkable imrpovement in its employment in recent years. Around 25% of the people are employed in tertiary sector.

75% of the output is produced by secondary ad tertiary sector only.

In recent years, there has been a decline in the dependence of population on agriculture partly because of disguised unemployment. Some of the surplus labour in agriculture has moved to either the secondary or the tertiary sector.

Secondary Sector: Small-scale manufacturing is the most labour absorbing.
