The three friends decided to have lunch at a nice shady place. They found an ideal place half-way up the backwater beyond Marsh Lock. While having the lunch, narrator and George received a shock. This was what happened:

They were sitting in a nice patch of meadow; the three friends ready with their plates to eat. Harris was about to serve the pie; Harris asked for spoons to give the gravy; George and the narrator both turned to search for the spoons from the hamper behind them; as they turned, they were shocked to see Harris and the pie vanished! There was not any bush or tress around where Harris could have gone and hid! George and Jerome looked for Harris all around! They were unable to understand what had happened to him! And then at the place where Harris was sitting, his head and the pie appeared; later on it was found that Harris was just sitting on the edge of a gully and tumbled down it. Harris suspected George and Jerome had intentionally done it.
