On 14 July 1789 the parisans (people of Paris) stormed into Bastille and freed all the prisoners. They destroyed the fort which was a symbol of the King's despotic and tyrannical rule. They sold pieces of the broken fortress in the market as a remembrance of the incident. This happened due to many reasons:

1) Heavy burden of taxes only on 3rd estate
2) High prices of salt, bread
3) Low wages
