On 14th July,1789, people in Paris stormed the fortress prison of Bastille. It marked the beginning of French Revolution. This revolution led to the transfer of sovereignty from monarchy to the National Assembly. The Estates was renamed as the National Assembly.

All the property owning male were given the right to vote. Finally on 4th August, the National Assembly declared that feudal system and other taxes like tithes and tailles were abolished.

The people of the third estate compiled Louis XVI to give recognition to the national assembly.  

At the time of framing constitution of France, the people of the third estate took initiative and on 20 June 1789, they gathered in the grounds of Versailles and stated a National Assembly themselves.  

In order to restrict the monarchy system in France, they stated that they will not break this assembly until they had drafted a constitution for France.
