They require oxygen for respiration and carbon dioxide for photosynthesis. The gases diffuse into the intercellular spaces of the leaf through pores, which are normally on the underside of the leaf - stomata. ... Respiration occurs throughout the day and night, providing the plant with a supply of energy.

Dear students,
● Exchange of gases in plants -
- Plants require O2 for respiration & CO2 for photosynthesis.
- Diffusion of gases takes place through leave openings called stomata.
# During day -
- Stomata are usually open during the day to increase CO2 absorption.
- During day, CO2 is taken in & O2 is expelled out as photosynthesis occurs during day.
# During night -
- Stomata are usually close during night to decrease water loss.
- During night, O2 is taken in & CO2 is expelled out as respiration takes place at night.
Thanks for asking.
