Marvel felt trapped helping the Invisible Man with his work. The Invisible Man needed him as a tool to do things he couldn't do himself. But Marvel was unwilling and tried to convince him to spare him by saying that he was the worst possible tool, his heart was weak and it was plausible that he could mess up the Invisible Man's plan out of sheer funk and misery. The Invisible Man did not seem to pay any heed to whatever Marvel said. Marvel even cribbed saying he wished the Invisible Man was dead and the task was incredibly hard for him, but the words fell on deaf ears. The Invisible Man threatened to twist Marvel's wrist and he would be furious, if Marvel tried to play up. All efforts made by Marvel went in vain and he had to submit to the Invisible Man.
