The Balkans was an area of geographic and ethnic distinction involving modern days Albania, Greece, Romania, Bulgaria, and Macedonia whose residents were basically perceived as Slavs.
A substantial part of Balkans was under the authority of the Ottoman Empire. The spread of notions of Romantic Nationalism in the Balkans collectively with the downfall of the Ottoman Empire made this area explosive. During the 19th century, the Ottoman Empire had attempted to establish itself again but the Balkan people raise their demands for sovereignty or political rights for freedom and related the account of the region for their interest. Moreover, Balkan also displayed the disturbance due to the rivalry of supremacy among big powers.
