Describe  the  factors  that  led  to  the  downfall  of  the  Maratha  Empire
under  the  Peshwas.

The Martha chiefs were not united and involved in intense power struggle amongst them. The British took advantage of this ,resulting in three wars before the British took control of their kingdom. The first at ended with the Treaty of Salbai. The second-anglo Maratha war resulted in the British gaining more territories. Finally the third Anglo War crushed the Maratha Empire completely.
