The Constitution of India established a federal structure to the Indian government., declared it to be a "Union of States" . There is a division of powers between the Union on the one hand and the Units on the other. The Indian Constitution is both written and rigid. The divisions of powers between the centre and the states has been put in black and white. An independent judiciary or the Supreme Court has been set up in India to settle disputes between Centre and the States or between two or more states.
