The poem presents the poet as a sensitive person who is quite affectionate towards her mother and is deeply attached to her. She loves her 'sweet' face and notes the changes in it as she ages. She remembers all the incidents connected with her life including her laughter as she finds it hard to bear her death. The same case was with the mother as she wanted to live back the memories of the 12 year old girl who was enjoying her day at the beach with her cousins. She knew the passed time can never repeat itself, the only thing left with her was the memory of her childhood and the photograph of the beach. She felt happy and nostalgic while looking at the photograph.
