Explanation:
The first war of India`s independence also known as the Indian Rebellion of 1857 first started on 10th May 10 1857. Mangal Pandey was the first martyr of this revolt.
There were lot of reasons for the above revolt. Some of them are mentioned below.
- The British and the Indian soldiers were treated differently. It was found that the British soldiers behaved ruled with Indian soldiers.
- During January 1857, there were rumors going around that the English cartridges were greased with animal fat of cow and pigs which was unacceptable to both the Hindus and the Muslims working in the British army.
- There was feeling that the British were out to destroy the belief and religion of the Indian people
- Introduction of the new land revenue system was also one of the reason for the revolt as it was designed to take away the land from cultivators.
The revolt however failed for various reasons. Some of them were as follows:
- The uprising was centred around specific regions like Lucknow, Kanpur, Aligarh, Arrah, Agra, Delhi, and Jhansi which were very far away from each other which led to a communication gap between their leaders .
- Lack of central leadership.
- Lack of both finance as well as advanced weapons when compared to the Britishers.
Hope this helps.
