Five Kingdom of Classification :

There are millions of living organisms around us. They are found everywhere on the Earth ---- in the deep oceans and seas, rivers, soil, on the ground, in cold mountains and even in hot deserts.

All these organisms differ in shape, size and habits. This makes it difficult to study all of them individually. However , if they arranged into groups based on the similarities and differences, gathering information about them will become easy and systematic.

Aristotle , a Greek philosopher, who is regarded as the Father of Biology, was the first person who proposed the method of classification of living beings. He divided all living organisms known during is time into two categories - plants and animals.

A five - kingdom classification was proposed in 1969 by Robert H Whittaker.

The five kingdoms are

  • Kingdom Monera
  • Kingdom Protista
  • Kingdom Fungi
  • Kingdom Plantae
  • Kingdom Animalia
