A rainbow is a meteorological phenomenon that is caused by reflection, refraction and dispersion of light in water droplets resulting in a spectrum of light appearing in the sky. It takes the form of a multicoloured circular arc. Rainbows caused by sunlight always appear in the section of sky directly opposite the sun.

After a rain shower there r many water droplets in the atmosphere. The sunlight which passes through the droplets goes through dispersion as the droplet acts as a prism. The light ray goes through refraction then total internal reflection n then finally emerges out of the water droplet in the form of a band of seven colour aka the spectrum.
