Various forms of marriages where performed in the early Vedic period.

Brahma vivah was a type were same Varna was married. Daiva vivah is a type where the daughter is donated to the priest as Dakshina. A marriage without dowry was known as Prajapati vivah.

Gandharva vivah and swyamavara vivah was like love marriages. Asura vivah was marriage done by purchase. Paisach vivah was like seduction.
