Answer: The salivary glands present in our mouth secretes saliva . It is a sticky like substance released to digest food items . This saliva mixes with the food in the mouth and makes it as simple substance which is easier for our stomach to digest food. And also saliva makes our throat wet. If we didn't have saliva then we tent to drink water often.

Hope it helps✌️✌️

 \Large{ \rm{ \cdot{ \underline{ \purple{Salivary \: glands...}}}}}

There are three pairs of Salivary glands found in our buccal cavity. These Salivary glands especially helps in the chemical digestion by secreting enzymes. Thus they are exocrine glands (glands that secrete enzymes) and release their secretions through ducts. There are three pairs of salivary glands that are Parotid, Submandibular/Submaxillary and Sublingual glands.

The Salivary gland secrets saliva which us made up of different constituents which help in various functions like:

  • \large{\rm{\red{Digestion}}}

The Saliva contains Salivary amylase or ptyalin which partially digests the starch into sugar(Maltose), thus digestion of carbohydrates starts in the mouth itself.

  • \large{\rm{\red{Protection}}}

The saliva contains some proteins called muceins which forms the mucous part of the saliva. This helps in the lubrication and protection of parts of the mouth.

  • \large{\rm{\red{Taste}}}

The Saliva is just like the solvent in which the food gets mixed and can enter easily into the taste buds, and then the taste buds detect the taste.
