In bacterial cell DNA is located in the cytoplasm as nucleus is absent there.
Sexual reproduction of bacteria takes place in three different ways – conjugation, transformation and transduction.
In conjugation the transfer of gene takes place through contact between two cells. One bacterium gets attached by a tube with another and gene transfer occurs.
In transformation the bacterial cell takes up piece of DNA from the surrounding by binding to it. This remaining of these DNA comes from other dead bacteria.
In transduction exchange of bacterial DNA takes place through a virus called bacteriophage. The pieces of bacterial gene get incorporated into the viral genome. The DNA fragments are transferred to another bacterium when bacteriophage virus infects the new bacterium.
