Modes of Nature are a very special, bright Vedic term which describes and explains the functioning of material nature based on three influences or forces-goodness, passion, and ignorance. They enter all areas of this material world and influence all aspects. Those situated in the mode of goodness slowly move upward to the higher planets; those in the passion mode live on the earthly planets; and those in the ignorance mode go down to the hellish worlds.

Explanation:

• The mode of goodness gives our mental state, the kind of body we have, and even the environment, a dimension of harmony, pureness, happiness, wisdom and honesty.For success in the spiritual life, the mode of goodness is necessary but it allows us to discriminate what is favorable and unfavorable in the pursuit of our aims. As it is still a material mode, even this condition still must be transcended and the state of pure goodness (suddha-sattva-guna) achieved.
• The verse more clearly describes the outcomes of behaviors in the three types of nature. There is a upper planetary system, composed of the outer planets, in which all are very small. In this system, the living being may be moved to different planets according to the degree of development in the mode of goodness.
• Satyaloka, or Brahmaloka, is the highest world, and the primary human being of this universe is Lord Brahma. We have already seen that the wondrous conditions of life are hardly measured in Brahmaloka, but we can do so with the highest state of life, the way of goodness.
• A human is not always pure, but although he should be solely in the mode of passion, he simply will remain
• But because there are mixtures, one can also go down. People on this earth, in the modes of passion or ignorance, cannot forcibly approach the higher planets by machine.
• In the mode of passion, there is also the chance of becoming mad in the next life. on earth as king or rich man. It is a mode of passion that mixes up the middle, among the modes of goodness and ignorance.
• The lowest quality is represented here as abominable, the mode of ignorance. The outcome is very, very dangerous because of ignorance is highly dangerous.  Those who stay continually in the mode of ignorance without rising to a higher mode. Their future is very dark.
• One who engages in full devotional service, unfailing in all circumstances, at once transcends the modes of material nature and thus comes to the level of Brahman.
