India my be divided broadly into five physical units - The great mountains of the North, The great indian plain , The great peninsular plateau , the coastal plains, the islands.
India is geographically divided into 6 parts:-
1) Northern Mountains:-
• There is a huge Himalayan mountain range in the north of India, which has the highest mountain peaks in the world.
• The Himalayan mountain range is about 2400 km long and it separates India from China.
• Many rivers originate from this region which provide water to northern India.
2) Northern Plains:-
• This region is one of the most fertile regions of the country.
• The vast plains of northern India were formed from soil brought by rivers flowing from the Himalayan region.
• And all this area is irrigated by the rivers originating from the Himalayas.
3) Peninsular Plateau:-
• The peninsular plateau consists of regions of central India and southern India.
• The peninsular plateau is divided into parts of the Deccan Plateau, Chota Nagpur Plateau, Malwa Plateau etc.
4) The Desert:-
• The Thar Desert is located in the west of India, some part of the Thar Desert is also in Pakistan.
• Most of the Thar Desert in India falls in Rajasthan and Gujarat
5) The Islands:-
• The main islands of India are: Andaman Nicobar Islands, Lakshadeep, Diu, Majuli (Assam), Sriharikota etc.
6) Coastal plains:-
• Many states of India are bordered by the sea, among them Gujarat, Goa, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and West Bengal.
