describe the history of bhakti movement in easy language
Answers
In the late 7th Century, Bhakthi Movement originated in Tamil Nadu and spread across Northern India. It was predominant between 15th and 17th Century. The original idea of Bhakti movement was to bridge the gap between Shaivas and Vaishnavas and to bring them under the common fold. Adi Shaknkara was the first exponent of this reform Movement. Bhakthi movement was regionally developed around different gods and goddesses what we have now in Hinduism. The movement has traditionally been considered as an influential social reformation in Hinduism, and provided an individual-focussed alternative path to spirituality irrespective of one's caste of birth or gender. Until the arrival of Adi Shankara, Hindusim had lot of loose connections of different faiths. What lacked in Hinduism was a Spiritual Guru. On the other hand, Buddhism was growing very fast based on the concept of Sangha which means "Access to insight".
Understanding all these Adi Shankara, Esatablished four mutts on four corners of the nation and one in Kanchi (Tamil Nadu). He made sure, each of these mutts has lineage. Furthermore, he understood the core principles of Buddhism and established "The Advaita Vedanta, a school of Hindu Philosophy" which unites both Buddhism and Ancient Hinduism. Adi Shankara acted as a spiritual Guru and gave the Shloka, "Guru Brahmma, Guru Vishnu...."
Later Bhakthi Movement was taken forward by various Saints and poets (Ramanuja, Madhava...).
