Keller was the first deaf and blind woman who had created waves as a writer, political activist, and lecturer.
Helen Keller was born in a small town called Tuscumbia, Alabama, on an estate called Ivy Green. Her birthday was June 27, 1880, and her parents were Kate Adams Keller and Colonel Arthur Keller.
She lived in a tiny house called "Ivy Green". It consisted of a large square room covered by vines, climbing roses and honeysuckles. As a nature lover and imaginative child, Helen enjoyed the company of humming birds and bees. This pleasure could not be enjoyed for long, as Helen was robbed off her power to hear and see by a mysterious ailment. Thus, her home is her childhoods' paradise. She saw the rose and heard the bees, for the first and last time at "Ivy Green".

Though the house was not very big, it was completely covered with vines, climbing roses. and honeysuckle. From the garden it looked like an arbour. The porch of the house was covered by a screen of yellow roses and Southern smilax which was always buzzing with hummingbirds and bees.
