Majoritarianism was practised by:-

1) Sinhala was the only official language.

2) The govt. followed pre - ferential policies that favoured Sinhala applicants for university position and government jobs.

3)The Srilankan Tamils launched parties and struggles for the recognition of Tamil as an official language .

Majoritarianism brought harm to the country Sri Lanka because by favouring the majority section of society, it alienated the minority section of society. They took to ethnic conflicts to demand for more share in power and resources which the government otherwise negated them.
