The story is ironical because the writer doesn't wanted to write ghost stories if his own but they were famous.he wanted to write stories of other genres.
It was again ironical that the ghost had helped him in that work.
The appearance of the ghost adds a humourous element to the story.
The satire lies in the representation of fashionable ladies and their fads.
Hope its Helps U...

WE GET A JUDICIOUS FUSION OF HUMOUR, SATIRE AND IRONY IN THE STORY.THE WRITER SATIRISES LAVINIA'S 'CRAZE FOR TAKING UP NEW FADS' AND HER 'FANCY SHOPPING'. IT IS QUITE FUNNY THAT SHE BUYS OUIJA BOARD TO HELP JOHN WRITE SHORT STORIES. ELSIE BROWN'S HUMOUR AND IRONY FIND BEST EXPRESSION WHEN JOHN SAYS ,"MY WIFE IS SO PRETTY AS WHEN SHE'S DOING SOMETHING SHE KNOWS I DISAPPROVE OF." LAURA HINKLE IS HUMOUROUSLY CALLED 'A FLIRTATIOUS CROCODILE.' THE LADIES OPERATING ON OUIJA BOARDS ARE CALLED "MANIPULATIVE'. IN THE END, IRONICALLY , THE GHOST OF HELEN INSPIRES JOHN'S CREATIVITY TO WRITE A SHORT STORY
