Answer:

Hybridisation = number of sigma bonds + lone pair. CH3Cl = 3 sigma bonds between C & H and 1 between C and Cl There is no lone pair as carbon has 4 valence electrons and all of them have formed a bond (3 with hydrogen and 1 with Cl). Now, hybridisation = (3+1) + 0= 4 = sp3 (1 s & 3 p).

ANSWERS:

                 HYBRIDIZATION OF CH3CL

                     The hybridization of the central atom i.e.,Carbon in CH3Cl molecule is sp3.It is because the CH3Cl molecule has four single bonds and no lone pair of electrons.

 ORBITAL OVERLAPPING  OF CH3Cl

                  The valence electron always participate in bond formation.Both carbon and chlorine are the members of the 2nd period and p lock.

                  And in the case of carbon, the valence electrons are present in the 2p orbital, and in case of chlorine valence electrons are present in the 2p orbital.Thats why in the sigma bond formation 2p orbital of carbon and 2p orbital of chlorine will be invloved.

 So there is 2p-2p overlapping between C and Cl
