Describe the idea behind the tokin free school .To what extend was it a typical example of colonical idea in Vietnam ?

Tonkin free school was established in 1907.It was established to provide modern education.The subjects include science, hygiene and French.The schools approach to what it meant modern was to think prevalent at that time.It was not enough to learn ,it was important to look modern.They encouraged adoption of modern styles like having short hair cut but for Vietnamese it was like a major break in their own identity since they traditionally kept long hair.
