Alot of poets have a way of painting pictures with their words. This is one such poet who creates imagery in the poem, " Rain on the Roof".
In the first stanza of the poem, the poet describes a rainy night.
He describes how the stars present in the sky become invisible because they have been covered by clouds.
He says that the darkness is making him sad and reflective, and the rain is used as an analogy in regard to his feelings. That just like his emotions of tears falling softly from human eyes, the rain is falling.
He describes that there is only thing which can bring him joy; which is to curl up with a pillow in the bed of a country cottage.
That even though the rooms of the cottage may be small and have little necessities, at least the sound of raindrops have the ability of transporting him there which helps him to recover from his sadness.
