Impact of bhakthi genre:
The first play that was written in Assamese language was written by "Hemchandra Barua" and named Kaniyar Kirtan about opium addiction. His play chiefly used to address social issue. Barua wrote "Bahire Rongsong Bhitare Kowabhaturi".
The most outstanding early writers were "Lakshminath Bezbarua" who founded literary monthly, Jonaki in 1889 with 19th-century "Romanticism".
Later with 20th-century writer's tried to remain faithful to an ideal expressed in Jonaki. Assamese with notable practitioners "Mahichandra Bora and Holiram Deka".
