Impact of Rinderpest –

(i) Rinderpest killed 90% of cattle in Africa.

(ii) The loss of cattle destroyed African livelihood.

(iii) Planters, mine owners and colonial government successfully monopolized what scarce cattle resources remained.

(iv) Forced Africans into labour market.

(v) Control over the cattle resources enabled European colonizers to conquer and subdue Africa. Any three points to be described.

The impact of rinderpest on people's livelihood and local economy in Africa in late 1890s was very terrible.

●It was spread by an infected cattle brought by British people for feeding the Italian soldiers invading Eritrea in them.

●It spread and devastated the local economy

it had a terrifying effect on livelihood of local people because it forced the people to be shifted in the labour market as earlier they were reluctant to do so because of abundance of land and livestocks

●It killed 90 percent of Africas cattle and livestock
