Ahoms were a tribe who established the Ahom kingdom in the part of present day Assam also known as kamarupa. . As a result no stable government existed in the region till the coming of the Ahoms in the 13th century they defeated Mughal forces in the battle of saraighat by the Ahom general Lachit Borphukan.. in 1671.
