Respiration is the step wise oxidation of  complex organic molecules and release of energy as ATP for various cellular metabolic activities. It involves exchange of gases between organisms and environment. The green and as well as non green plants obtain oxygen from their environment and return CO2 and water vapour into it.  Chemical equation: C6H12O6+6O2-----> 6CO2+6H20+ENERGY  Why respiration is important for plants?? 1.Plants need energy to perform various metabolic activities of cell. The 2.Plants get this energy from the respiration. 3.plants need energy to absorbs minerals and salts from soil. 4.Plants need energy to absorb water from soil. 5.Plants cell respire. If they stop respiring they die. Difference between Plant and animal respiration: 1. All the plants of plant like root, leaf and stem perform respiration individually . On the other hand , an animal performs respiration as a single unit. 2. The respiration in plants occur at slow rate . On the other. hand respiration in animals occurs at much faster rate
