On 13th April large crowd gathered in Jallianwala Bagh. Some of them had come to protest against the government’s new repressive measures and others had come to attend Baisakhi fair. General Dyer entered the area, blocked the exit points and opened fire on the crowd, killing hundreds to create a feeling of terror.
Impact:
(i) As the news spread, crowd took to the streets in North Indian towns.
(ii) There were strikes, clashes with police.
(iii) Attacks on Government buildings.
(iv) The government responded with brutal repression to terrorize people.
(v) Satyagrahis were forced to rub their noses on the ground.

1) To protest against the British government cruel behaviour towards the opponents of Rowlatt act and the arrest of the popular leaders to huge meeting was arranged on April 13 1919 such that the day of baisakhi at Jallianwala Bagh at Amritsar

3) Without giving any warning he ordered his man to open fire from their machine guns on the innocent peoples.
4) The bagh was surrounded by high walls with and unused well in between there was only one opening for people to move out of bagh where general O'dwyer was armed with his men.
