Explanation:
in march 1946, the British government sent a three-member fact-finding commision to examine the demand and to lay the groundwork for a free India. The commision suggested that India should remain undivided with some autonomy for the Muslim dominated areas. But the Congress and the Muslim League did not agree to this . Thus the partition of India was inevitable .
The Muslim League pressed it's demand for a separate state of 'pakistan' and declared 16th August as 'Direct Action day'. Riots broke out in Calcutta on this day and by, March 1947, spread to different part of North India . Hundred and thousand were killed and untold brutalities committed on both sides of the country. In August 1947 , the new country of 'pakistan'was born a 'divided ' India gained it's independence
