Answer:

Indus valley civilization or Harrapan civilization was an early civilization which developed across half of Indian subcontinent. It came to light during third decade of 20th century, when excavations were made by archeologists in the North-western part of India. The excavations led to discovery of ruins of prehistoric cities of Harappa in west Punjab and Mohenjodaro in Sind. AS THE SITES OF EXCAVATIONS WERE FOUND ON THE BANKS OF RIVER INDUS AND ITS TRIBUTARIES, IT FIRST CAME TO BE KNOWN AS THE INDUS VALLEY CIVILIZATION. as Harrapa was the first site excavated in Indus valley civilization, therefore Indus valley civilization came to be known as Harrapan civilization.
