Each kidney is covered by semi liquid fatty tissue called adipose capsule. The kidney shows two distinct regions ;outer is called cortex and inner is called medulla. Cortex of kidney contain the parts of neutrons. The medulla contains renal pyramids and renal calyces. Medulla also show column of Bertini between pyramids.

The kidney comprises of 2 main regions
i) the outer dark cortex
ii) the inner lighter medulla
The medulla composes of finely striped substances arranged in several conical pyramids. The apex of each pyramid which is also know as papilla projects into the pelvis of the kidney.
The kidney composes of enormous number of tubules (minute tubules) called uriniferous tubules or renal tubules or just kidney tubules.
They are the structural and functional unit of the body.
