Answer:

The Jallianwala Bagh is a small park in Amritsar Punjab. It was enclosed on three sides by high building walls and has a small entrance gate.

On 13 April 1919 people gathered there to protest against the rowlatt act and against arrest of two nationalist leaders _SATYA PAL and SAIFUDDIN KICHLEW. However some had come to celebrate Baisakhi festival.

The gathering was peaceful .There were men, women, children, young and old. They were in aware of the martial law which was imposed.

Suddenly a British military officer arrived with his troops. He closed the only exit, without giving any warning to the gathering he ordered his troops to fire. The firing lasted about for 10 minutes. Hundreds of people were killed and thousands were wounded .It was a calculated act of inhumanity.
