Answer:

Prince Siddhartha was born in 563 BC in a royal family. He was born with a golden spoon in his mouth and was shielded from all the sufferings of human life. At the age of twelve, Siddhartha was sent for schooling in hindu scriptures. He returned after 4 years at the age of sixteen to marry a princess. She bore him a beautiful son. They lived together in the palace till the age of 25. One day, Siddhartha went to a hunting expedition where he was exposed to harsh realities of life. He chanced upon a sick man, an old man, a monk begging for alms and a funeral procession. These thought-provoking scenes led him to leave his royal life and roam around the world learning about the sufferings of an individual. He roamed for around 7 years and rested under a tree to meditate. He finally achieved enlightenment after 7 days and renamed the tree as "Bodhi Tree" or the tree of enlightenment. His first sermon was in Benaras were he taught Kisa Gotami about the inevitability of death. Siddhartha Gautama was called as Buddha which means the "enlightened one".
