The King of the floating island Laputa is a very rigid ruler and can be very harsh with his subjects. His strict and authoritarian nature proves this. He meted out severe punishments to anyone who violated rules. Moreover, the King also wanted to establish himself as a mathematical genius. However, he was a good host to Gulliver and treated him kindly. The King also made arrangements for Gulliver to tour around the island.
Like with any other person meeting the King of Luggnagg, Gulliver was made to kneel down in front of him and lick the floor in front of the king’s feet. Gulliver obliges to this readily. The King takes a liking to him and gives him money to stay in Luggnagg for three months. When it was time for Gulliver to leave, the King laded him with more presents and a written recommendation letter to the Emperor of Japan whom Gulliver was to meet in the course of his travels.
