Land ownership pattern in India before British occupation was in the hands of the King and there was no concept of private ownership. Farmers and peasants had a piece of land where they use to cultivate different crops suitable to their environment and land. When the crops were ready to harvest Kong's man come and took 1/6th or 1/12th(as fixed) proportion of the crops.
Sometimes during difficult times this proportion may increase to 1/3rd part of the total crop yields.
