The soil is found in layers, which are arranged during the formation of soil. These layers called horizons, the sequence of layers is the soil profile. The layers of soil can easily be observed by their color and size of particles. The main layers of the soil are topsoil, subsoil and the parent rock.

there are different types of soil each with its own set of characteristics .

dig down deep into any soil and you will see that is made up of players or Horizons (o,a,e,b,r)

Horizon O :-

(humus or organic) mostly organic matter such as decomposing leaves the o horizon is seen in some soils thik in others and not present at all in others .

Horizon A :-

mostly minerals from parent material with organic matter incorporated .

a good material for plant and other organism to live .

Horizon E :-

leached of clay mineral and organic matter leaving a concentration of sand and silt particles of quartz or other resistant material - missing in some soils but often found in older soil and forest soil .

Horizon B :-

it is rich in minerals that moved down from a or b Horizons and accumulated here .

Horizon C :-

the deposit of earth surface from which the soil developed ( parent material )

Horizon R :-

a mass of Rock such as granite basalt and limestone or sandstone that forms the parent material from some soil if the Bedrock is close enough to the surface to weather . this is not soil and is located under the c Horizon .
