  • The creature exists as an obligatory parasite.
  • It also needs two hosts during its lifespan. Wheat and barberry plants serve as the hosts.
  • The plant is the primary agent of infection and it generates fruiting bodies known as spores.
  • When the stems of the wheat plants are exposed to the parasite, the lifecycle of the parasite and thus the disease cycle begins.
  • The number of parasites infected is referred to as the main inoculum. The Burberry serves as a key inoculum source.
  • Puccinia goes through five phases in its life cycle:-
  1. The aeciospores, which infect wheat plants at germination, are transmitted during the first stage.
  2. The second stage is the uredinial stage, where single-celled, thick-walled uredospores are generated. It can be scattered by the wind.
  3. The third stage, known as the Telial stage, is created at the Uredospores' terminal stage of development. Tleto spores are the spores that are formed at this stage.
  4. The germination of the previously created spores initiates the fourth stage, known as the basidial stage. A diploid cell is created at this stage as a result of the nuclei fusing together. Then, during meiosis, the four haploid nuclei are generated from it.
  5. The pycnidial stage, which is the fifth and last stage, sees the germination of the mycelium formed from the basidiospores.
