birsa munda ( 1857-1900) was probably born in ulihatru in Ranchi, jharkhand. He received some education from Christian missionaries, but later came under vaishnavas influence. As a young man, birsa became sensitive to the exploitation of the minds by the taking over of village wastelands by the British. He earned a title from the sick'Dharti aba' father of the and the leadership of his people.As leader of the mundas, he demanded the remission of forest taxes. He was arrested, and the exploitation continued and was released on 1897.
