The Salient features of genetic códe are as follows:
The códe is triplt códe that is three nucleotides form into one codon and one codon can specify one amino acid
There are 64 triplet codons in codons dictionary out of which 3 are nonsense codons and 61 are sense codons.
Some amino acids are códed by more than one codon and this type of códe is called degenerate códe.
The same codon in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes códes for the same amino acid. The códe is universal.
for example :
- UUU códe for phenyl alanine in both Bacteria (porkaryote) and Humans (Eukaryote).
The codon which códes for amino acids are known as sense codon and the codon not códing for amino acids are know as non sense codon or stop codon.
