Main features:
Main features:Groups - There are 18 vertical columns in the periodic table. Each column is called a group. All elements in a group have similar chemical and physical properties because they have the same number of outer electrons. Periods - In periodic table elements are arranged in a series of rows.

What is the periodic table?
A periodic table in Chemistry is a tabular representation of all known elements, where elements are arranged in increasing order of their atomic number.
What are the parts of the periodic table?
- the horizontal rows are called Periods. There are 7 periods in total.
- the vertical columns in the periodic table are called Groups. There are 18 groups in total.
Main features of periodic table:
- Periodic table follows periodicity in property. This means that physical and chemical properties of the elements start to repeat after fixed intervals.
- The Groups are named based on the number of valence electrons of the elements in them. So group 2 and 12 will have those elements which have 2 valence electrons.
- The periods are named based on number of shells. So period 4 will have elements with 4 shells.
- The reactive metals occur at the left of the periodic table, metalloids in the middle and the non-metals and inert gases occur at the right.
These are the main features of the periodic table.
