The monsoon winds which bring rain to India get divided into two branches -Arabian sea branch and Bay of Bengal branch, due to the peninsular shape of the Indian subcontinent.
The Arabian sea branch strikes India on 1st June Kerela and goes to Punjab.
The Bay of Bengal branch strike the Khasi hills in India and are deflected towards Punjab.
Both the branches meet at Punjab (& Haryana also) and precipitate heavily there.
They further descend from the Indian subcontinent and rain at the Coromandel Coast. It is now know as the "Retreating Monsoon".Now the winds are known as north -east monsoon winds.
After Coromandel Coast they move towards Kerala precipitate there and India's monsoon season comes to an end.
