The citadel of the Harappan cities had some important buildings. One of these is called the Great Bath present at the Mohenjodaro. It was lined with bricks, coated with plaster, natural tar was used to make it water-tight. The steps were present on two sides. The rooms were present on all sides. A well would supply water to it and water was probably drained after usage. It was probably used by important people for taking dips on some important occasions.

The Great Bath of Mohenjodaro is called the "earliest public water tank of the ancient world". It measures 11.88 × 7.01 metres, and has a maximum depth of 2.43 metres. Two wide staircases, one from the north and one from the south, served as the entry to the structure.
(1) The great bath resembles a large swimming pool. This building is 55m long and 35m wide. There are galleries aal round the pool.
(2) It is used on religious festival.Arrangements has been made to discharge the dirty water from it by huge drains.
(3) Near SOUTH-WEST corner of the Great bath was the "hummam" I. e the hot air bath.
